What is a Hippie part two

I posted a few moths ago “What is a Hippie part one”  This is going to be part two.  Instead of another general post about what I think hippies are, this is going to be about what kind of hippie I am.

I’m second generation hippie.  My parents and uncle Terry were the “original hippies” in my family.  You would never know this by looking at them now. But fortunately my uncle loves to tell the stories and pull out the pics on occasion.

He once shook the hand of Jim Morrison. My daughter may request his hand be stuffed and mounted someday. She is third generation hippie disguised as an banker/t ball mom.

I’m not exactly a “fruits and nuts” variety hippie as one of my aunts like to call modern day hippies.   I do love fruits and nuts and I am definitely all about saving the planet as best I can being married to a man who works in the energy services field. We have a cabin “in the woods” we are planning on retiring there eventually  and it will be as close to “green” as we can get it and still not freeze in the winter. We WANT to be self sustaining eventually.

We hunt. Some people are highly offended by this. A lot of people who are also hippie type are vegan. We NEVER trophy hunt and we are very much against this type of hunting. We don’t hunt very much. Twice a year and some years we harvest nothing. If there isn’t a old or injured deer to harvest and help thin the heard, we don’t take anything. We ALWAYS eat what we take. We don’t buy meat from grocery stores because of the disgusting treatment of industrially raised animals. We are careful and thoughtful of where our food comes from.  We only buy free range no antibiotic eggs from people we know. I know that some of you will still have a problem with me. All I can say is we are making efforts. It’s more than I can say for most of Americans.

We are grandparents.

We love them all.

I sew. I love to make pillows for my grandkids and anyone who will take one.

I love to create anything with anything I find lying around.

We ride motorcycles. We just started a couple years ago. We love it. We have made many really great friends while riding.  It’s a great way to connect with nature and yourself. I think a lot about life and what’s important to me while I’m on that bike.

I wear many hats and I enjoy them all.

That’s me.  Not your typical hippie but my own kind of hippie.

Who are you?

#Pokemon can bring us Together #DontLaugh

I have had such a nice month of September so far.

Don’t rush to judge me. Hear me out first.

One of the reasons my month has been nice is because of…

Pokémon Go.

I never watched the cartoon Pokémon. My kids watched it and played with the cards. I bought them cards, but I didn’t know what they were doing with them.

Lots of kids collected trading cards.

To me, the new game meant nothing.  I briefly worried about the whole “the government is tracking people with this odd game”.

I have concluded that we are probably tracked with these phones anyway in ways we don’t even understand. If we aren’t, that’s great.  If we are, then my only recourse is shut off the phone or accept it.

For now I’ve accepted it because I have to. My family would probably have me locked up for being crazy if I unplug.

So in the meantime, myself, my husband and one of our sons are all playing Pokémon Go.

before Pokémon Go, we hardly spent any time together other than the occasional family dinner. We were busy or they were. He is married with two young children.

We all now meet two or three times a week at the parks around here and walk together and talk. A lot. We walked the track around the park for two miles last night!

My daughter in law doesn’t play the game and I’m not overly into it so we walk together and push the baby around. My son and his dad are playing, laughing, competing and walking all over the park. Mostly they walk behind us and veer off occasionally to find a Pokémon gym. But they are always within yelling distance so they can see us.

We are having family fun and exercisizing.

It’s a win-win situation.

Whatever it takes!

P.S. I’m kind of hurting today. I may have over done it since I’m an amateur exerciser. 😩

P.S.S. Here are some pics I took in the park:

#Style in My Time

Every generation has and will have names for the generations in the decades before them.

I have names for what I see in the generations before me. I and others call some of 1960’s and 1970’s society as Beatniks, Hippies, Disco Queens to name a few.

Names we give to our predecessors come from what was seen or heard in media and from conversations or experiences with others.  For example think of “flappers”. It gives you a visual of a certain time.

I was a teen and twenty something in the 1980’s. The other day I was wondering to myself; why do I call myself Hippie Lady online? My mother was more hippie lady than I.

I loved Stevie Nicks’ style. She was like a good witch, or fairy. Mystical. She mesmerized men and women alike with her style.

My point is, what do people call the 80’s as pertaining to my so called idea of Stevie Style? It was widespread. It was beautiful. It was the mother of  what became 90’s gothic.

It was/is the quiet child of hippie style.  I think it’s bohemian.  This style is timeless and has reincarnated since women stood and draped cloth across their bodies in lovely flowing silhouettes.  Classic.

As for the Madonna look of the 80’s?  I think it is hippies wild child. I don’t think it will be anything other than subject for Halloween costumes of the future. Much like those poodle skirts of the past became.

Well, one could only hope that they don’t come back. If it does. We would have to give it a name. 🤔

Psst… I wore that Madonna look and I think I rocked it. ☺️

Don’t let stress consume you

I don’t know about you folks but my life is stressful. It shouldn’t be. My kids are grown and doing well so what do I have to stress about?  It doesn’t matter to go into detail about the whys of life stresses.  Everyone has stresses and they affect us all in different ways.  Let’s just focus on how to relieve stress.

Have you ever gone online and looked at your credit report? I have years ago when I was younger and it blew my mind all the stupid little things that were messing up my credit. Yes there were a few big mistakes but mostly it was small under a few hundred dollar bills I had blown off and didn’t pay. Keep in mind this was in my early thirties and I didn’t at the time fully understand credit reports. Anyway…

I freaked out thinking how am I going to fix this stressful mess?  I initially thought if I pay off these two huge debts I will be better off because fixing big mistakes first seems like the best thing to do to quickly relieve the “stress” on my credit.

Wrong.   Paying off the two big bills took a long time and only changed my credit score a few points and I was still sitting there spinning my wheels and looking at a pile of smaller bills.  Two years later the big bills were paid and my credit still sucked and I felt just as stressed about that credit report as I did two years prior.

I finally paid off everything on that report. I then met someone else needing to fix a report as bad if not worse than my own. He asked for help.

This time we ignored the large bills and focused on paying off all the bills under $500.  This person paid off ten bills over the course of six months and their credit score soared without paying a dime on the two huge dollar amount items on the report. Not only did the credit score go way up in a short amount of time but the persons mega stress about the credit score issue was virtually gone.

My point is, tackling giant problems isn’t always the best choice at first.  Sometimes it is best to focus on the tiny problems around you and take them on one at a time.  When you are stressing about all life’s problems just stop and take a look around and find the little stresses and work on those first and then work your way up to the larger ones. It gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment that motivates you on to the next slightly bigger problem.

Have a great Friday and stop and smell the flowers.

As for me I’m taking some time to go to the hippie house in the mountains and finish painting it. We started last week and it’s coming along great!

Hiding behind the screen

The Internet is an odd place.  Some  people just sit back and observe and some of us put it all out there for all to see whether they want to or not.

Some people blog as themselves and others blog as they want others to see them.

Some people tell the truth and others fabricate some or all of what they put out there.  Some people post only what makes them happy and others only post what makes them depressed.

What we see online isn’t always what it seems.

Some don’t post much negative things because they get enough negativity in their life that they don’t want to focus on it in their posts.

The web is a happy place for some.

On some blogs life is always sunny and happy.  That doesn’t mean that everything is always sunny and happy, it means that is what they choose to focus on. The person that is posting happy all the time may be living a miserable life and being happy online may be the only happy life they have.

Some people post their demons. They try and cast out their negativity on the Internet. Purging, I call it.

I’ve done both. I’ve had two websites, one puking out every pissed off feeling, all my anger and depressed thoughts and the other is all sunshine and unicorns.

My point is… You cannot know someone from what you see online.

That cheerful blog you are reading may be masking a person dying of cancer.

That seemingly mad, insane ranting blog, may have a quiet little church mouse librarian hiding behind it.

The blog telling of the blogger traveling all over the world, may just be a recluse googling pics of destinations they long to go on but really don’t have the money or guts to actually go.

Someone posting organic recipes and great healthy ideas may be a dreamer hoping that someday that will be how they live.

Life and online blogging is complicated.

I call myself a hippie. But am I really or is it who I want to be or who I want the reader to believe I am?

That’s the fun of the Internet.
